PAULA MOLAND
Owner
Paula Moland was born and raised on Cape Breton Island off the coast
of Nova Scotia, Canada. She attended St. Mary's University and
Brook's College, receiving a degree in marketing that she put to good
work for companies such as Nordstrom's corporate office, Corporate
Property Investors (a national shopping mall developer out of New
York) and finally as Director of Marketing for Rockaway Town square,
one of their large scale properties in New Jersey. Paula held this
position until beginning her family in 1990. During the time her
first two children were young, Paula was a stay at home mom.
When Paula's oldest son entered kindergarten, she trained with the
Colorado Childcare Association and in 1994 opened a family childcare
in Boulder, Colorado. The demand was very high for quality care and
the program filled up immediately. In 1995, Paula's husband's work
took the family back to New Jersey. Paula again opened a very
successful family childcare in Madison, New Jersey. In 1996, demand
was so high for quality childcare that she decided to expand to a
larger, commercial location. Little Friends Day School opened in June
1996 in Chatham, New Jersey with a licensing capacity of 100 children.
In 2000, Paula became aware of the shortage of quality childcare
programs for the residents of Basking Ridge, NJ and a developer in
town was accepting proposals from local and national childcare
providers to lease a build-to-suit site. Paula's company was awarded
the project based on the quality and reputation of the program
currently being offered at the Chatham location. After two years
collaborating with architects, the developer and the town, in January
of 2003, The Blue Kangaroo Day School opened its doors. The 12,000
square foot facility houses approximately 180 children.
In the summer of 2004, Paula and her family fulfilled their longtime
dream of moving to the coast of South Carolina. With her youngest
child then two years old and in need of a high quality preschool
program, she began Starfish Academy. Starfish is an 8000 square foot,
120 student facility that opened in May of 2006.
Paula currently resides in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina with her
four children.
